BLOG: Aurélie Pontal of WWF France - Recycled Papers

BLOG: Aurélie Pontal of WWF France

We interviewed Aurélie Pontal, Partnerships Manager, WWF France to discuss the Arjowiggins Graphic Environmental Calculator.

WHY DO WWF SUPPORT RECYCLED PAPER?

We support recycled paper for its impact reduced on the environment as it allows to reduce our consumption of natural resources, and so protect the planet.

The protection of forests and water for instance and fight against climate change are among the main goals of WWF in its mission statement.

WWF is one of the first independent organisations in the world and our mission is to build a world where humans can live in harmony with nature.

The challenge is so big that we have decided to work with everybody; citizens, cities and the companies that are willing to reduce their ecological footprint and propose sustainable practices and sustainable solutions.

Recycled paper is one of these solutions because it allows us to reduce the pressure we have on the environment and natural resources, but also because it contributes to create a positive local circular economy using waste as a resource.

WHY DO WWF SUPPORT THE ENVIRONMENTAL CALCULATOR?

WWF has worked for many years on paper, working with producers and buyers.

WWF France produces a study each year named the PAP50 to assess the paper policy of private and public organisations.

With these studies we also developed guidance for those actors on how they can make progress and provide them with tools like the environmental calculator – because it allows them to assess and visualise the environmental benefits of choosing a recycled paper from Arjowiggins Graphic rather than a paper with virgin fibres – sometimes with spectacular results on energy and water consumption and CO2 emissions.

It’s a tool that raises the awareness of the reader of your brochure and to announce the commitment by your company – the choice made on recycled paper.

Finally, we have worked with Arjowiggins Graphic since 2009 through a partnership, so we are confident of the serious commitment of the company to the environment.

DO YOU USE THE ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFIT STATEMENT?

Yes we use it on almost all our reports like our annual report or on our studies like the PAP50 that I quoted earlier and our supporting publications sent to our donors.

This tool is important for our stakeholders as it’s additional proof of our commitment to preserve the planet and it’s also proof of transparency.
