The Bessé-sur-Braye Mill was founded in 1824 and is situated to the south-west of Paris. With a workforce of 568 people and a capacity of 320 000 tons, Bessé is the main production site of Arjowiggins Graphic.
The mill principally produces high white recycled papers such as…
… as well as coated specialities and laminated papers. Papers are comparable to leading virgin fibre papers whilst maintaining the highest possible environmental standards.
The Bessé production process is controlled by a hi-tech system of continuous real time measurements with computer-controlled adjustment. This is supplemented with strict and continuous checking by the machine operators, laboratory testing of the paper at all stages of production and statistical analysis of product and process data.
Speciality papers produced at the mill include:
Location | France |
Machines | 2 paper machines, 2 coating machines, 8 cutting lines, 3 wrappers, 3 pallet wrappers |
Annual Production | 320,000 tonnes per year |
The Mill is proud to have achieved ISO 14001, ISO 9001, OHASAS 18001, ISO 50001, EU-Ecolabel, Blue angel, FSC® and Food Contact certification. The mill’s production process is Process Chlorine Free (PCF).
Bessé makes a major contribution to the environment by manufacturing high quality materials from sustainable alternatives. For instance, Cocoon 100% recycled paper is a FSC® Recycled alternative to virgin fibre papers, with comparable whiteness and print performance. In addition, the mill manufacture recycled and wood-fiber based materials that look and perform like plastic, but without the environmental damage.
The advanced water treatment plant means that 95% of the water taken from the river is put back after use and cleaner than when extracted. 100% of the water treatment residue is used to make soil treatment for agricultural use.
