Canoe Hamble River - Recycled Papers

Arjowiggins Graphic Charity Canoe Challenge

On 21st July 2012, Arjowiggins Graphic UK embarked on a 20km Canoe Challenge to raise money for children and young people living in refuge in the UK.

The challenge will take 15 Arjowiggins employees down the full length of the River Hamble and back again in Canadian style Canoes.

The team, which will include staff from the sales, customer services and marketing division from the world’s leading manufacturer of innovative and environmental paper solutions, chose the physical challenge as part of the company’s annual team building event.

The aim is to raise over £1,500 for the Building Bridges fund, part of YMCA Fairthorne Group – a charity that supports children and young people in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Demand for YMCA services funded by Building Bridges has increased dramatically over the past 3 years due to funding cuts to organisations that provide support for children. YMCA Fairthorne Group have therefore decided to focus on a different group of young people each year.

The 2012 focus is to offer Daycamp places to children and young people living in refuge. This includes children who have witnessed or been victims of domestic abuse, which often has negative physical and psychological effects.

  • Just £130 will provide a child in refuge the chance to enjoy an exciting week long Summer Daycamp.
  • Just £95 will provide an exciting weekend residential camp experience and may help change a child’s life.
