Arjowiggins Graphic and Antalis have launched a joint project to educate universities on the benefits of using recycled papers. As part of this project, the two companies are visiting universities to discuss the vast environmental benefits of using recycled papers and how an eco-conscious choice of printing material can help universities to significantly reduce their environmental impact.
One institution embracing the use of recycled paper is Robert Gordon University Aberdeen (RGU). According to Bill Walker, RGU’s Print Manager, the university’s environmental policies and a new generation of eco-conscious students have driven a huge change in attitudes towards recycled-papers. Working with Arjowiggins Graphic, using its unique Eco Calculator tool, RGU was able to directly asses how using recycled papers had reduced its environmental footprint. The Environmental Benefit Statement produced found that from January to May 2017 by using Cocoon and Cyclus 100% recycled paper*, RGU had reduced their environmental impact by 15,932 kg of landfill, 2,300 kg of CO2 and greenhouse gases, 435,325 litres of water, 24,916 kWh of energy and 25,007 kg of wood.
Acknowledging the role printed materials plays in achieving the Universities wider environmental goals, Bill says: “The University is committed to sustainable practices, minimising impact of all its activities on the environment. This approach absolutely extends to our printed material and the role of the print department in ensuring we are as sustainable as we can possibly be”.
